Some tips for playing along with these songs:
FIRST, learn to strum and change the chords.
If finger picking, play some of your easy roll patterns for each of the cells.
For clawhammer or frailing, use simple basic strums in each of the cells.
If playing with a flat pick or single finger, play all down strokes as you strum.
SECOND, pick out the melody on single strings by using your ear or by reading the music notation.
Use up or down strokes for melody.  Whatever works for your strumming style.
(On each song page, click the sheet music icon below my name for the music).
THIRD, combine the chords and melody to suit your style of playing.
Click here for some help on how to read music notaion and play by ear.
(Thanks to Mike Moxcey)

When using visual materials such as music notation, tablature and chord diagrams, remember this:
"Use the music to learn the song.....Use your ears to play the song"
When playing with others, listen and watch what is going on around you, see how everyone is playing.
Practice a lot so that you don't need to look at any music notation while playing.
Happy Picking and Strumming,
Jim Bottorff
